The conference is <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">co-sponsored, planned, organized, promoted and presented <\/span>by <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the five National Associations of Librarians of Color (NALCo):<\/span><\/p><ul><li><a href=\"https:\/\/ailanet.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">American Indian Library Association (AILA)<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.apalaweb.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Asian\/Pacific American Librarians Association (APALA)<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bcala.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Black Caucus of the American Library Association (BCALA)<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cala-web.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Chinese American Librarians Association (CALA)<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.reforma.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">REFORMA: National Association to Promote Library and Information Services to Latinos and the Spanish Speaking\u00a0<\/a><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Joint Council of Librarians of Color Inc. (JCLC Inc.), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, serves as the fiscal agent and resource advisory supporter of the Conference.<\/span><\/p><p>JCLC brings together a diverse group of librarians, library staff, library supporters, and community participants to explore issues of diversity in libraries and how they affect the communities of color that use our services.<\/p><p>JCLC is a unique and unparalleled opportunity for participants to share successes, opportunities, and challenges while networking and attending programs on pressing issues affecting both librarians and communities of color.<\/p><p>JCLC strives to deepen connections across constituencies, create spaces for dialogue, promote the telling and celebrating of one\u2019s stories, and encourage the transformation of libraries into more democratic and diverse organizations.<\/p><p>The conference includes speakers, skills-building workshops, research-based panels, networking opportunities, and exhibits. (JCLC, Inc.) formed as a nonprofit organization\u00a0that advocates for and addresses the common needs of the five National Associations of Librarians of Color (NALCo) and serves as the fiduciary body for the Joint Conferences of Librarians of Color.<\/p><h2>JCLC 2006<\/h2><p>The 1st National Joint Conference of Librarians of Color was held on October 11-15, 2006 in Dallas, TX. The conference theme was \u201cGathering at the Waters: Embracing our Spirits, Telling our Stories.\u201d It was the first-ever national conference sponsored by all five NALCo.<\/p><p>The 2006 Steering Committee was comprised of:<\/p><ul><li>AILA: Loriene Roy and Victor Schill<\/li><li>APALA: Ganga Dakshinamurti and Kenneth Yamashita (SC Co-Chair)<\/li><li>BCALA: Gladys Smiley Bell (SC Co-Chair) and Sylvia Sprinkle-Hamlin<\/li><li>CALA: Linna C. The conference theme was \u201cGathering All Peoples: Embracing Culture &amp; Community.\u201d<\/p><p>The 2018 Steering Committee was comprised of:<\/p><ul><li>AILA: Camille Callison, Liana Juliano and Sarah Kostelecky<\/li><li>APALA: Lessa Pelayo-Lozada and Sandy Wee (SC Co-Chair)<\/li><li>BCALA: Gladys Smiley Bell and Em Claire Knowles<\/li><li>CALA: Qi Chen and Lian Ruan<\/li><li>REFORMA: Roxana Benavides (SC Co-Chair) and Susan Luevano<\/li><li>Treasurer: Dora T. Ho<\/li><li>Secretary: Heather Devine-Hardy<\/li><li>ALA Staff Liaison: Cheryl Malden, Governance Office\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/li><\/ul><p>The JCLC, Inc. Board of Directors has designated that the conference will take place every four years,\u00a0with the next conference being planned for 2026. JCLC 2022 was rescheduled from the original dates\u2013October 5-9, 2022\u2013due to the effects of Hurricane Ian in Florida.
