The Joint Council of Librarians of Color Inc (JCLC Inc.) holds professional conferences and meetings – the Joint Conference of Librarians of Color 2022 (JCLC 2022) – to enable its attendees to receive continuing education, build professional networks, and discover new products and services for professional use. The JCLC Inc. is committed to providing a safe, productive and welcoming environment for all conference participants and JCLC 2022 staff.\u00a0 All participants, including, but not limited to, attendees, speakers, volunteers, exhibitors, JCLC 2022 staff members, service providers and all others are expected to abide by this Code of Conduct.\u00a0 This Policy applies to all JCLC 2022 conference-related events, including those sponsored by organizations other than the JCLC Inc. but held in conjunction with JCLC 2022 events, on public or private venues and platforms.<\/p>\n\n

As an organization affiliated with the American Library Association (ALA), the JCLC Inc. is strongly committed to diversity, equity and the free expression of ideas. These values have been repeatedly delineated in ALA policy (for instance: Policy A.1.4 \u2013 Core Organizational Values; Policy B.1.1 \u2013 Core Values of Librarianship; Policy B.1.2 \u2013 Code of Professional Ethics). Taken cumulatively, the values and beliefs delineated within ALA policy describe conduct based on a firm belief in the value of civil discourse and the free exploration of competing ideas and concepts \u2013 with a fundamental respect for the rights, dignity and value of all persons.<\/p>\n\n

The JCLC Inc. has zero tolerance for any form of discrimination or harassment, including but not limited to sexual harassment by participants or our staff at our conferences.\u00a0 If you experience harassment or hear of any incidents of unacceptable behavior, the JCLC Inc. asks that you inform any member of JCLC Inc. Board of Directors or any member of the JCLC 2022 Steering Committee in the JCLC 2022 Conference Office so that we can take appropriate action.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n

Unacceptable Behavior is defined as:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

    \n
  • Harassment, intimidation, or discrimination in any form<\/li>\n
  • Verbal abuse of any attendee, speaker, volunteer, exhibitor, JCLC 2022 staff member, service provider, or other conference guest.\u00a0 Examples of verbal abuse include, but are not limited to, verbal comments related to gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, religion, national origin; inappropriate use of nudity and\/or sexual images in public spaces or in presentations, or threatening or stalking any attendee, speaker, volunteer, exhibitor, JCLC 2022 staff member, service provider, or other conference guest.<\/li>\n
  • Disruption of presentations during sessions, in the Exhibit Hall or other events organized by the JCLC 2022 throughout the Conference.\u00a0 All participants must comply with the instructions of the moderator and any JCLC 2022 event staff.<\/li>\n
  • Presentations, postings, and messages containing promotional materials, special offers, job offers, product announcements, or solicitation for services.\u00a0 JCLC Inc. reserves the right to remove such messages and potentially ban sources of those solicitations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n

    JCLC Inc. reserves the right to take any actions deemed necessary and appropriate, including immediate removal from the Conference without warning or refund, in response to any incidence of unacceptable behavior, and the JCLC Inc. reserves the right to prohibit attendance at any future conference, in person or virtual.<\/p>\n\n
